I've often asked this question myself "Why do ordinarily rational people defend giving away money to the already rich?" At their own poverty stricken expense? I've always considered it a form of religion: "You have to believe in the delusion before you can understand why they do it"
However, the underlying link gives some thought to the matter and a request for restraint. How dumb do you have to be before you realize you are cutting your own financial throat?
